Ride Leader Tips and Responsibilities
Pre-ride the route on the same day of the week and at the same time of the ride
so that all issues will be identified. This would include a church letting out,
a factory shift change, and any other event that happens at a specific time and
day of the week. Consider rerouting if any issues are identified. This will also
indicate what businesses are open on weekends for rest stops.
Locate stops with facilities available for parking and restroom. Inquire as to
friendliness towards motorcycle group.( Should try and bring a woman along on
pre-ride so she can check out the restrooms)
Plan for 20 mins at each stopping point (This should be included in the
pre-ride.)
Plan to have breaks at appropriate intervals, as not everyone can last for and
hour or more on the bike.
Assure each chapter member signs the roster prior to ride. Assure each guest
signs a waiver form, and complete any forms required for minors participating.
See form identifications below.
Review group riding rules and hand signals expected to be used during the ride
(Ask for any riders that are new to group riding.)
Observe posted speed limits. Start slowing down when you are adjacent to the
"Speed Zone Ahead" sign and speed up at the Posted limit sign.)
Assign a sweep rider to follow the group, and make sure they understand their
responsibility to stop along with anyone having problems (Ask for a volunteer
and make sure they understand.)
The ride leader has the responsibility and discretion to reject any rider based
on improper gear (i.e. no helmet), suspicion of alcohol or other impaired rider
condition, or impaired motorcycle conditions that render it “not road ready”.
This is to protect the other riders from potential harm that might be caused by
the rider or the motorcycle.
Alcohol is not allowed on chapter rides, and requires that the ride be cancelled
(or can we reject the impaired rider and continue?) Yes and ask them to either
wait until all HOG members have left or leave ahead so they are not confused
with the group.
Communicate your ride info (route, mileage, stops, etc) to the
webmaster@hammondhog.com so info can be posted on website for printing by
members.
HOG sanctions events by providing liability coverage, but is only active between
start, or kickstand up, and designated end of ride, kickstand down.
Obtain from Sherry, the secretary, or another officer a ride package which should include the forms below. All completed forms should be returned to a chapter officer after the ride.
